  Produce Handling Tips

Loading

  • Pulp product at loading - report any temperatures over 40 F.

  • Count product during loading! Know the tie/high and the number of pallets loaded.

  • Check the condition of boxes - and report exceptions.

  • Secure the load with load locks. If boxes are stacked straight-up (not tied), turn pallets.

  • Check bills - have any quantity changes initialed and note who made the change (shipper/receiver) on all copies.

  • Assure that the bills list the temperature to be maintained.

  • Must have Temperature Recorder on all CA and AZ loads.

  • Who is responsible for pallet charge - the shipper, receiver, or carrier?

In-Transit

  • Visually check load daily for leaning pallets, damaged boxes, etc.

  • Regularly check refrigeration thermostat and trailer temperatures.

  • Have pulp thermometer in rear of trailer and check two or more times per day.

Unloading

  • Count product during unloading.

  • Check bills thoroughly for all signatures and quantity changes.

  • If two or more receivers are signing for product on the same bill, make sure that every box is accounted for.
